photo shoot with "The Jump Offs"

Wednesday night? I forget. Anyway, Landon from the wicked awesome band, "The Jump Offs", asked if I could shoot some press photos of the band. We've been trying to get everyone together for a while, but with everyone having grown-up schedules, it's pretty hard to get everyone in one place. Finally we figured I would just come down to there rehearsal studio and shoot there. I shot a few photos in the music studio, then we walked out onto the street for some more lifestyle type stuff.
I tried to get creative without having the sun to light my photos. Most of the stuff was shot with long exposures, LED lights, colored plastic gels, and hand held flashes. It was challenging but pretty fun. I think we got some really colorful stuff. Extraordinary thanks to Chris and Brent for helping me out.

also, you should listen to these guys, they rock.

Photos from Wednesday night. pre- 'Jump Offs'

I drove about 100 miles in a 12 hour period on wednesday, that's a lot. In the morning I surfed Ala Mo Bowls with Drew (it was fun.) Then went back home to have lunch and do chores with the family. Anyway at night I had to drive all the way to Sandy beach to pick up a light from Cameron's brother, Steve. After that I met up with "The Jump Offs" for a long awaited band photo session. I had some time to kill between Sandy beach and the Jump Off's rehearsal studio, so I took a few pictures around the south east bend. here dat

Waiting for Chris gave me some time to play with myself, literally. I took a few self-portraits for heck's sake. In this picture I realize i'm pretty good... pretty good at looking lame.
20 second exposure I think.
I used a red plastic gel thing to cover the flash on this one. clouds 15 seconds I think.
I went up to Chris's house so he could grab some of his gear. This is his house, the whole thing is his but he rents out the other rooms to people who are successful like doctors and stuff. Chris is modest and lives in the small closet.

turn left, his view this way.

We started messing around with photos with 'The Jump Offs' around midnight, and finished at about 2:00 a.m. Im giving all the pictures to Landon, but I can give you guys an idea of some of the pictures we took. We had fun with lights, it was like a rave, except without some hippie lady DJ and people giving each other back rubs.... well almost.

I think i'll be able to put up more pictures from the Jump Offs session soon, but I got email them around first.

till then

Surf. by myself. Tiny, perfect, polie's.

I got my posts out of order, now what are you gonna do? Tuesday afternoon I surfed Polie's by myself. Baron and Drew went earlier that day, they called me, told me it was "going off"... and I know what "going off" at Polie's means... it means I gotta get out there. So I finally made it to the beach 3 hours after I talked to them. Unfortunately by the time I got down there, the swell was pretty much dead. Luckily, the conditions were perfect, the waves that did come in were fun, and it wasnt crowded.
I surfed till the sun got close to the horizon and the rain poured out of the clouds. Since the waves were small, I spent most of my session trying to take pictures of the rainbow, thinking about funny ideas for pictures, and staring at my hands. The tide was super low, the lowest i've ever seen it out there, you could touch the reef with your feet while you were waiting for the sets on the outside. weird. I did catch one good wave, head high, 4 turns, warm water, rainbow, no wetsuit, perfect.
If only it was a little bigger, it would of been mind blowing (That's what she said).

another thing when I was bored. "I think I should be a model... anyone know if 'Z Cavaricci' is hiring?"

I didnt know i took a picture of a fish until I got home. I just randomly took a picture underwater and this showed up. Anyone know what kind of fish it is?? I was thinking it was a Penguin, but i'm not 100% sure.
the rain was fun

Oh, I video taped the small waves. what else you gonna do.
